The Timber Toolbox supports six competencies from the Forest and Forest Products Training Package (FPI05). These are described below.
Working effectively
Provides an introduction to the Forest and Forest Products Industry, covering rules and responsibilities, awards and agreements, and how to plan a day's work.
Unit of competency: FPICOR2201A: Work effectively in the forest and forest products industry.
Core competency in all FPI05 Certificate II and III qualifications.

Safety and environment
Introduces the Occupational Health and Safety Act, environmental legislation, how to carry out a risk assessment and how to report incidents.

Quality and product care
Looks at the costs associated in maintaining quality in the workplace, and the responsibilities all employees carry for monitoring quality in their own work.

Core competency in Certificate III in Harvesting and Haulage; Sawmilling and Processing; Wood Panel Products; Timber Manufactured Products; Timber Merchandising; Wood Machining.

Assessing materials
Covers how to prepare the work area, the process of carrying out a visual assessment and sending the material to its destination.
